April Lockhart

April Lockhart (born July 4 in 1995) started her journey in music at the age of 7 when she took guitar and piano lessons. When she was in seventh grade she began to take guitar and piano lessons. This ignited her interest to write songs. As April approached 14 years old, she spent long hours creating song ideas as well as perfecting the song. Then, she began taking trips in NY and LA together with her father in order for them both write songs. April began including other topics in her book Take My Hand to help her friends who were dealing with disabilities, peer pressure or even suicidal thoughts. Lockhart is an influencer in the beauty and lifestyle industry with an ever-growing fan base. She is a partner with the popular brand Ilia with whom she has a partnership in addition to being a lifestyle expert. It's true that she was born with no left hand and that makes her unique. However, this isn't the only aspect that makes her unique. Lockhart doesn't deny her disability on Instagram, but she isn't making it the focal point of the post. What is the message? It's this that we all share many identities, we're more complex than we think that we're. Lockhart has stated on video that she didn't want to be defined by her physical disability. She doesn't want to be a disability advocate who only talks about that. There are many aspects of Lockhart. The issue doesn't affect my everyday activities. I conduct the same way as I always do and have developed different ways of adapting. The same is true for my life, and I think it's something that needs to be addressed. Her journey to self-acceptance is one that can last a lifetime, but she can be a role model with regard to this. Still she admits she's gone through phases of her body at times feeling insecure to wear particular types of clothes that showed the arms of her. The woman now puts on whatever clothes she likes and uploads photos on Facebook in awe. One of the keys to self-love for her is the fact that it's not a destination. It's true for all, no matter what their degree of self-confidence. I think it is important to surround yourself with people who can really see you.
